OneTone: New Ringtone Source

A new ringtone source for your handsets

A new ringtone source for your handsets

Ring tones are popular little sound clips that may either come pre-installed or available for order online or through a message order-transmission service depending on the phone unit and mobile content provider. They were originally devised to maximize the sophisticated new audio software and hardware capabilities of cellular phones – far beyond the standard bell-ringing offerings of older standalone phones. These catchy tones have progressed from simple midi-style tones to polytones with multiple layers of sound, to true tones that are basically actual clips of actual songs with vocals and instrumentation. Catering largely to consumer individuality, customization and personalization potential, ring tones have been popular for almost as long as cellular phones themselves.

Having run for a full year [launched on April 29 2008] and still going strong. RingtoneFeeder has consistently delivered original ringtones created specifically to sound best on the iPhone. Ringtone maestro Geoff Smith, who has written, performed and recorded the majority of RingtoneFeeder’s offered ringtones, has been producing and playing music for most of his life – becoming popular for his original jingles on “Geekbrief”, Adam Curry’s Daily Source Code Podcast and various other programs.  However, intense demand from users of other handsets has prompted RingtoneFeeder to open its doors to non-iPhone-based consumers, resulting in the August 25, 2009 announcement of a new service.

RingtoneFeeder took the availability of ringtones to a new level with OneTone – a service that allows mobile phone users to purchase ringtones on a one-by-one basis from the already-available RingtoneFeeder service. This new offering does not require consumers to have an iPhone or a subscription account. RingtoneFeeder makes this service available to all, even outside of their 25 million users through Myxer, making the OneTone offerings compatible with popular carriers such as Cellular One, Virgin Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Weireless, TMobile and AT&T. Steve Spiro, Myxer’s VP for Marketing, has already released statements showing enthusiastic support for this new ringtone venture.

RingtoneFeeder has made its unique and high-quality ringtones exceedingly affordable at $0.99 USD each, and the ringtones are especially accessible as well. These ringtones, which have always been popular with users, can be downloaded directly to the user’st handset. Formerly catering mostly to iPhone users, RingtoneFeeder is banking on the OneTone service to make ringtones available to users of other handset models as well – sending RINGTONEFEEDER to 69937 requests a link to the list of ringtones available, which can also be seen at Myxer’s website.

RingtoneFeeder currently offers a subscription model, which when signed up for installs new, original tones to the user’s iPhone via iTunes on a weekly basis – the 10 latest ringtones are delivered upon subscription, and two new tones arrive every week. Users more ringtone-savvy may avail of the expanded service, RingtoneFeeder Plus, which offers access to RingtoneFeeder’s entire library of ringtones. One feed for vocal iPhone tones and one feed for instrumental iPhone tones is available to users through this service, with rates ranging from $9.98USD for users with an active annual subscription to $29.95 for a new archive-access-enabled annual subscription. OneTone is projected to open up new avenues of access and a whole new market in the non-iPhone-based crowd.
