Mobile media has always been a big seller, especially as evolution took it and its many aspects and facets across the years. While the mobile phones and units that contain mobile media evolved and changed, with technology allowing for more varied and more well-integrated features, the mobile content and media contained within them have also gone from format to format. Users, meanwhile, have eaten this up, eagerly supporting the now-thriving industry as it catered to their interests and individuality. Even the music industry has gotten in on the act, signing in and teaming up with mobile media providers to provide entire libraries of music to be sold as full tracks or ringtones.
Among the companies whose mobile models have become popular is the inimitable Apple. After having established themselves as a strong software and hardware provider over their many years of doing business, Apple hit it big anew with the iPod – a revolutionary MP3 player that has itself undergone varied changes and evolutionary stages before giving rise to Apple’s next brainchild, the iPhone. This candy bar style smartphone offers the best of both music and mobile worlds for users, with its many integrated features and unparalleled music storage and playback quality. It has become one of the most popular smartphones of recent years, spawning application after installable application that aims to help maximize its capabilities.
One such application has been developed by software team Wondershare. The iPhone Ringtone Maker expands on the iPhone’s ringtone creation option already available through iTunes, and provides a powerful little app that offers iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users an ideal solution for customizing ringtones from full songs. It converts audio files from WMA, WAV, RA, M4A, and MP3 formats to the iPhone’s M4R ringtone format, and even extracts audio from various video file types [AVI, WMV, MPEG, MOV, FLV, MKV, RM, XviD, MP4, H.264/AVC, AVCHD, M2TS, .DAT, 3GP, and VOB] which can then be trimmed and saved to serve as ringtones. Along with the aforementioned formats, iPhone Ringtone Maker also supports ripping audio from CDs and recording original audio files. Whichever you choose to use, the integration with iTunes – an iTunes display is commonly found to the left of the app screen for easier access – makes the experience a fast and functional one.
The iPhone Ringtone Maker then allows a user to clip the existing audio segment to a desired length using a waveform selection interface. Within the interface a user can delete, duplicate, insert, restore and preview a customized or modified ringtone. Zoom in and out functions allow for accurate selection and clipping setting, a feature not present in many other ringtone maker applications. Fade in and fade out effects can also be added to the modified sound clip, for smooth and non-abrupt start and end for playback. Finally, the Ringtone Manager included with the program allows you to transfer the ringtone between iTunes and the iPhone. Currently available for $19 down from $25, the iPhone Ringtone Maker is presented as an affordable and powerful software package.
