Will Lenovo’s LePad be Able to Compete with the Apple’s iPad

There has been rumors that Apple will release a newer and better version of the iPad next year. The said device will have a camera in front of the tablet and will have more advance features as compared to the iPad just released. People have been anticipating this rumoured release but still bought their 1st gen iPads. They have camped out iPad distributor stores even five days before the release of the very first iPad. There have been great response from the public so far they have been satisfied by the features this tablet offers.

Lenovo has also been developing their tablet and is said to launch their LePad next year. They are to release this device in the US and China by May 2011. Lenovo ‘s CEO Yang Yuanqing said that the Chinese computer maker is new to this kind of market but is trying their luck in the handset and tablet industry. Although Yang said to Wall Street Journal that it will be released sometime next year, he did not disclose the price of this tablet. He also did not say much about the operating system and if they are to partner with carriers in the US.

Lenovo debuted their first smartphone, LePhone, in China and they hope to be able to sell about a million units this year. LePhone has the Baidu search engine instead of Google as the primary search engine. It has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Its screen is also friendly to look at with its 3.7 inches AMOLED screen. Camera is 3 megapixel.

Lenovo will be facing giant names in the tablet business. LePad will be competing with Apple, LG, HP, Research in Motion, Samsung and not to mention other China brand tablets as well. For Samsung, going on sale last week with TMobile USA and Verizon Wireless can be a sign of defeat. Or it can also be a marketing strategy. Samsung also will launch on November 21 the new GalaxyTab with Sprint Nextel and AT&T Mobility which is expected to dominate the sales and jump  from about 20 million this year to 54 million next year.

It seems everyone is following Apple’s iPad. Nvidia is now working with Google on their Android tablet which is also rumoured to be released next year. Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia’s CEO has criticized Samsung’s GalaxyTab and surprisingly said CNET, “You can’t just do another product. Look at the Samsung GalaxyTab. It’s a tablet that uses a phone operating system on a large display. A tablet is not a large phone.”

He said that the tablet they will release will not be a phone that has been enlarged to be a tablet but will use Nvidia Dual Core Tegra 2 processor. He said it will “give you the benefit of higher performance and much, much better multitasking and better graphics.” He even said that this will be much more powerful than the iPad of Apple.

Will the Tablet be the next big thing in the industry? Tell us what you think.
