The iPad Conquers Japan


TOKYO — the Japanese technology has been said to be the first among any other countries. It has proven to be the envy of neighboring countries and the US. When iPod was released in the market, Japan was shocked when this American gadget was able to trample the long loved gadget of Japan: Sony’s Walkman. After the iPod came the iPhone and it would seem that Japan is not able to match Apple’s technology. Just last Friday, the latest gadget of Apple iPad was released and people have been in vigil in front of stores literally waiting for the stores to open so that they can buy this latest Apple tablet. What happened to Japan technology that even Japanese come to love the gadgets of Apple?

Whit the iPad was out in the Japanese market last Friday. Japanese companies are threatened which should bring them to research more about how to surpass the technology Apple has brought the world. Japan’s cellphone companies have to adapt to the ever rising demand of the iPad in the metro.

The tablet computer from Apple went on sale not just in Japan but in other countries as well. After being able to sell millions of units in the US alone, Apple exported the gadgets to Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Austria, Britain, Canada, France and Germany. In Japan, Softbank was surprised when tons and tons of orders for the iPad came in. Softbank is the exclusive carrier of iPad in Japan. In Tokyo alone there were about more than a thousand people lined up in front of Apple stores to get their hands on the new gadget.

In Europe Apple stores people were also seen outside the stores waiting for the stores to open so that they can buy an iPad. In Louvre, Paris and in Cape Town, South Africa, people had been anticipating the sale of the iPad.

Not everyone was happy with the release of the iPad especially in Tokyo especially since Tokyo is considered to be the trendsetter in technological advancements. Although this was the case, Japan now looks for gadgets overseas for innovation. Japan made electronics have lost their innovative edge to Apple as it may seem. Even if there were critics when the iPod was released in Japan, the sale of the gadget has been successful. 1.69 units sold in 2010 prove that Apple is one of Japan’s favorite gadgets.

With the latest export of the iPad competition has certainly been heating up. Sony and Panasonic have to work double time in trying to win back Japan in loving their own products. Even the local Japanese game developer Konami had to adapt to situation and format their games so that iPad users in Japan can play their games.

The iPad has not just shocked Japan but the world all over. Innovation in technology has been conquered by a US company: Apple. Let us wait for Japanese companies to respond to Apple’s success. Certainly, they have something up their sleeves. The battle continues.
