Samsung Won More Won This 4th Quarter of 2010

Samsung has had a good year last year. In fact, they were able to place the 2nd top vendor for the last quarter 2010, because of the success of their well know smartphones. They have achieved a full year income of 16.15 trillion won in sales out of the 154.63 trillion won in sales. This is according to news in Korea IT Times.

Samsung Electronics announced that they had revenue of 41.87 trillion Korean won for the fourth quarter of 2010 which ended December 31. This is based on consolidated sales. That would mean a steady seven percent increase every year for the company. The overall consolidated profit for the Korean Company was 3.01 trillion won.

In their earnings guidance disclosed last January 7, Samsung estimated fourth-quarter consolidated revenues would reach approximately 41 trillion won through an operating profit of 3 trillion won.

The 4th quarter results brought Samsung’s full year 2010 revenue with an all-time high of 154.63 trillion won, up 13-percent from the previous year’s statistics. Their net gain reached an archive of 16.15 trillion won. This is 65 percent higher as compared with the previous year’s revenue, while operating profit was 17.30 trillion won. For the record, this is their best quarter yet.

Samsung’s performance within the fourth quarter stayed driven by memory semiconductors and strong sales of its cutting-edge smartphones. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, however, income decreased primarily because of weakening pricing for memory semiconductors and LCD panels, and also price competition within the TV market.

“Despite the difficult business environment including reduced IT demand brought on by the economic slowdown, we achieved record-high results both in relation to sales and operating profit in 2010,” said Robert Yi, VP and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Investor Relations Team. He further stated that even if overall business conditions are good, unlike the past year, they are to expect the original earnings low for the first half but will have a strong second half this 2011.

Samsung expects that the price competition in electronics will intensify, IT and mobile device markets this year, while major components price is also forecasted to go down. To offset pressures stemming from adverse market conditions, Samsung will concentrate on the cost competitiveness of the memory semiconductor portfolio, reducing marketing expenses and increasing shipments of high-end smartphones and tablet devices.
