Samsung hits it off with B3310

The last few years have been fairly good to mobile manufacturers, with a burgeoning mobile market keeping sales relatively steady despite the uncertain economic landscape. For their part, mobile phone manufacturers have undertaken continuous attempts at innovation and technological advancement in an effort to both maintain market command and provide good mobile units to consumers hungry for the next life-managing handheld gadget. This is indeed what mobile phones have become – organizers, planners and entertainment centers as well; this is certainly a far cry from the original mobile-call-only models that they were in the early days of mobile use, and certainly the way things will be going for the foreseeable future.

For their part, mobile phone manufacturer Samsung have continued to put together solidly-functioning, durable and flexible mobile phone models over the years. The B3310 is their newest addition to their ranks, and comes packed with a variety of useful features that set it apart from most of the pack as it is. A compact slider, the B3310 is seemingly somewhat easier for left-handed users to get used to, but is actually easily learned by all sorts of users. With its QWERTY keypad and easily-accessed numerical pad, crystal clear sound quality and user-friendly interface, the B3310 overcomes its relatively small screen and lack of 3G/WiFi connectivity with the similarly useful Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

The B3310 has a somewhat unusual-looking exterior with its number keys running alongside the screen instead of arranged below it – even looking like teeth when the phone is held sideways. Left-handed users might have an easier time fiddling with the keys without obscuring their view of the screen, although this is certainly not limited to lefties only as right-handed users can easily figure things out for themselves. In a very cool feature, the QWERTY keypad aligns nearly with the number pad similarly to how a computer keyboard would have them displayed. The clicking keypad is responsive and comfortable, which email fanatics will find to be good news.

Regrettably, the B3310 features a relatively small 2-inch screen. While the 240×320 resolution isn’t bad by most measures, it remains true that the screen could’ve been made larger if not for the strange decision to put the keys next to it. Thankfully, the display is still high quality and the screens are easy to navigate through. A quick-access bar allows users, well, quick access to a variety of commonly-used features such as the inbox, messaging controls, music player, organizer and social networking apps. Other apps can be added and removed from the quick access bar as needed or desired. The five-way navigation pad and a number of keys are below the screen, and on the back of the phone is the 2-megapixel still and video camera.

While it doesn’t have 3G capability, the B3310 has various solid features, from its quad-band GSM support for EDGE and GPRS. Its 2-megapixel camera doesn’t have flash but doers take good web-quality photos, and its media player and FM Radio have great and clear sound quality, which can also be said for its reception and call clarity.
