Samsung Galaxy Tab in Its Best Form

Samsung has been one of the leading providers in the US in terms of Android phones but is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab the next best thing Samsung has to offer? Will it actually be the better alternative for the Apple iPad?

The Galaxy Tab has had quite a story since May 2010. There has been rumors at mid year of 2010 that Samsung will release a 7 inch Android tablet like its Galaxy S phones. The rumors are true and Samsung was able to release this new gadget for consumers to love or hate. The Galaxy Tab has a 1GHz processor with a full Flash support. The Android 2.2 supports 2 cameras. It has a 32GB capacity for data. IIt has a WIFi and 3G connectivity.  The four big telephone companies in the US sank their teeth on the new gadget and carries the tablet as their featured alternative tablet for the season. Verizon was first to announce the price of $600 without contract. Sprint followed with the pricing.

The tablet is distinctively different from iPad with its 7 inch size. Although the Galaxy Tab is smaller it is thicker. But it is not that thick. In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is the best there is yet released in the market. You can comfortably hold it in one hand. Not too small like an Android phone but not to big like a netbook or iPad. The skin is less glossy than an iPad but still a fingerprint magnet so you would want to buy a case to keep the tablet clean. It is also significantly lighter than an iPad. Steve Jobs might not consider the size factor but this I think would be a great appeal tablet users who would want a more compact and more handy Android tablet.

There are critics saying that it is just an oversized version of the Galaxy S Android phones with no improvement on the processor, contrast ratio, graphic output and other features. Is it just and enlarged Fascinate or Captivate or is it the real deal in the tablet category? The LCD resolution is 1024 x 640 so it is of crisp quality. Watching movies in this tablet is top-notch.

What about applications? The software is familiar to Samsung users. That is probably why critics are saying it is just an enlarged Samsung Android phone. The Galaxy Tab’s UI slides itself nicely in its 7 inch full touch screen. You can easily slide from one pane to another. You can easily go from app to app.

Below are the core apps of the Samsung Galaxy Tab:

Email – the app looks the same as the Galaxy S phones but when you flip the tab landscape, you will get a Microsoft Outlook look a like display. You see your Inbox on the left side and your message on the right side. This is preferred by most users than the Gmail interface.

Calendar – The calendar has an attractive face to it as well. You can adjust the calendar to full screen in landscape mode. You get to see in two pane views a list of upo=coming events you have scheduled.

Messaging and Contacts – The Tab is not a phone so all US carriers have restricted its calling capabilities. You can use the messaging application though to send SMS and MMS, emails to saved contacts.
