Resolute Wants you to “Plummet”

Mobile content has come a long way in recent years, especially when one considers that there once was absolutely no mobile content to speak of. Originally, mobile phones were meant for making calls on the go and nothing more, bringing the stationary functionality of the telephone on the road and everywhere else a person might need to be at a given time. Once technology infused mobile phones with the ability to send and receive text messages and multimedia messages, mobile content became exactly that – and it was around this time as well that wallpapers and ringtones became the core mobile content.

Ringtones and wallpapers were the first truly big hit, spawning an industry that focused on offering order-basis and downloadable ringtones and wallpaper. Eventually mobile phones became “smart” and mobile content expanded further. Now mobile content includes a variety of software applications running off of more powerful and versatile core hardware and operating system platforms. These applications can include serious material that help us schedule our days and work appointments, or organizers that help us categorizer and add to our music and video collections. Still other mobile applications have given us the ability to bring console video games with us as we go out of the house.

Plummet, one such application for the iPhone and iPod Touch saw release recently, courtesy of relatively new app designer Resolute. Founded in January 2008, the Memphis-based app designer has produced four games and four apps for Apple’s popular iPhone platform, and Plummet is their latest effort. Initially apparently reluctant to produce apps for the iPhone in order to focus on their main thrust, which was games, Resolute are now seeking to try and branch outside of their early game-designing focus to apply their expertise and creativity to providing marketing solutions for local companies via the iPhone, according to CEO Chris Przybyszewski, who explains, “After everyone kept hounding us, the light bulb came on.”

In their latest offering, Plummet, players use the iPhone’s internal accelerometer – a unique hardware implement that is itself a core element of various currently-popular iPhone apps – to shift left and right as they control a single droplet of water, helping it plummet straight down a bottomless well while avoiding hitting the walls. Various different levels create plenty of interest and replay value, as worlds of fire and ice and earth are but the beginning, Among Plummet’s features are a local and global leaderboard that displays a player’s standing against other players worldwide. Social media connections are also available, particularly via email and via Facebook, so you can show your friends how well you’re doing in the well.  Most of Resolute’s apps are available for $1-$3 per download to an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Resolute has plenty of ventures lined up for the new year. Among them is their current tie-up with Memphis’ Good Advertising Inc., targeted to work as a win-win situation where Resolute provide their services and hopefully creates future expansions for their gaming focus. Marketing “Sole of a Hustla” for Memphis-based True South Studios is another, where a Resolute-created application provides an interface where viewers can check out video clips, music, theater info and photos covering the production. Resolute also has seven to eight new games in the pipeline, seeking also to expand their reach to the Android and Blackberry platforms.
