Record Ringtones Like a Pro

The mobile media landscape is continuing to shift and change, and growth is always on the wing. The horizons for mobile content continue to expand as technology makes new things possible for mobile phone manufacturers, mobile media providers, and mobile users. Mobile users in particular are among the biggest reasons for change in mobile media and mobile technology, as their tastes and needs grow to suit their continually-busy and fast-paced lifestyles. Beyond functionality and practicality though, entertainment has also been one of the central reasons behind the evolution of mobile content – something that continues to be the case even today.

When it comes to practicality and entertainment, one of the things that truly manages to capture the essence of both is the ringtone creation app. Apps are small-sized programs that run on smartphone platforms, allowing their users to undertake the completion of a variety of tasks, from something as businesslike as slotting meetings into a scheduled work week or organizing a contact list to something as fun as playing a quick game of Bejeweled or matching pitches on I Am T-Pain or Glee. Ringtones, on the other hand, are music clips that play in order to announce an incoming call or text message. Put together, ringtone creation apps help users create ringtones out of existing songs.

App developer Funmobility created one such popular application for the creation of ringtones. Dubbed Ringtone Recorder Pro, it was at the time of its launch the first and only iPhone application that allowed users to record a sound clip and make them their own iPhone ringtones. The iPhone microphone was an integral part of the process, as the built-in gadget would record up to 30 seconds of audio that could then be set as a ringtone. This makes for some fun times acting out favorite scenes from movies or sourcing the audio from solid speakers for much greater sound clarity.

Using the application is fairly simple. A user only needs to open the app and decide on a clip to record and set as a ringtone. Up to 30 seconds of audio can be recorded using the iPhone’s microphone, which will then be held up to a sound source while recording is going on. This may not be the best method for creating ringtones out of existing song clips, but it’s great for picking up a live performance – or personalized voice tones from your baby boy or your best friend. Multiple takes are no problem, as the app very easily allows you to preview the clip you’ve recorded just by hitting the Play button.

If you’re happy with what you’ve come up with as a recording, the Download button opens up a new screen where you can assign a filename for the ringtone and send the tone to yourself through the application’s server. By the time you receive it, it’s in the right ringtone format, allowing you to just drag it into your iTunes ringtone folder for your use. At roughly the price of one ringtone – 99 cents – this app is a worthy buy.
