RCP on the Berry

Virtually anyone who is anyone nowadays knows what a mobile phone is or has at least encountered one. After all, this is the age where we benefit from decades of perfecting the miniaturization and mobilization technology that have given us the ability to perform complex tasks formerly thought impossible to accomplish from the road or while on the go. Indeed, the modern mobile user can even take his entertainment out of the house with him in a compact, safe way that improves on the CD players and Walkmen of old – mobile content and media like ringtones and mobile audio and video allow for you to have the company of your favorite artists anywhere you go.

These and more are possible thanks to the development of technology that allows mobile phones to pack in much more powerful hardware platforms than ever before, on which continually-evolving software and operating  systems run and allow for smooth, easy and user-friendly mobile use. This hardware can also multitask line nobody’s business, allowing mobile users of today to bring as much as they can on the road with them, and all in higher quality than ever before. Another thing that has arrived on mobile phones and revolutionized their functioning capabilities is the mobile app, which allows users to push the envelope of what their mobile phone can offer.

The hardware capabilities and the interfaces afforded by the software all come into play when the mobile app adds a whole new program that runs on the mobile, serving a variety of functions that may fit the user’s needs. Some allow the user to keep updated through various news and RSS feeds from his favorite websites on various topics, while others give the user the ability to play ported adaptation of console video games or indulge in mobile-original games. Then there are the apps that focus on social networking portability, as well as the apps that connect you to mobile storefronts where you can get the latest full tracks and albums.

For those who want a wide range of ringtones to choose from, there are apps that help them trim their full tracks into clips that are more along the lines of ringtone length. There are also ringtone download apps that allow access to the many ringtones available online. Finally, there are also ringtone packages, which are collections of ringtones for a particular mobile line. Ringtones RCP is one such package.

Costing some $4.99 at the BlackBerry App World, the Ringtones RCP collection is a fairly straightforward application that loads up 45 ringtones and adds them to your available collection. These classic and unique pieces aren’t particularly reminiscent of a BlackBerry feel, and will thus separate you from the many who choose to be content with the default setup. The included message alerts run about 3 seconds each, which may be a bit lengthy for a simple alert, but aside from that the quality and attractiveness of these tones is pretty good especially considering the price. The only potential annoyance is the need for a microSD memory card, but as this is a fairly standard part of most BlackBerries anyway it’s not that big a problem.
