The N97 has been well anticipated by Nokia lovers. It has a Qwerty slider and thwacks as you get to switch from the touch screen to the keyboard. The phone feels powerful and sturdy. The classy look is accompanied by well designed tilt angled screen which makes it feel like you are using a small computer.
Is this smartphone of noteworthy to be compared to the Blackberry and the iPhone? It seems that there are still a lot of negative feedback as to how this phone is built. The Ovi store is one complain of users which they say is a poor source of applications. Nokia lets you purchase ringtones and wallpapers from Ovi but the interface is hard to manage as reviewed by some users.
Another complaint from users is that the unlock switch on the side of the phone can be easily broken. I recently had mine repaired at a Nokia service center and said that the only thing broken is that small switch which unlocks your phone and lets you use the touch screen. Parts are available but you have to replace the whole back casing so as to repair that small damage. The technician even said that it is the most common repair that they receive from the N97.
Although there are some negative feedback on the N97 I still think that it is an overall good phone but also should not be compared to the more high end smartphones in the industry.
Here are some unbiased feedback online from Nokia N97: (Source: Gizmodo.com)
“What a superficial world. I can’t believe how users of the iphone are so impressed with graphics. I have been drooling over the N97 for 6 months and finally got one last week. i love the phone. i don’t understand the comments about the UI. the home screen is the best one on the market by far. i rarely have to go into any other screen, as i can do everything at a glance. no other phone can claim that. i will gladly take a longer battery life, push email, tethereing, replaceable battery, fantastic camera, great third party apps, indestructable design and a real keyboard over flashy graphics and a corporate spin machine. when intelligent people see what the N97 really offers, they won’t look at any other phone.”
“Put another way, it doesn’t pass the driving test-I couldn’t bang out a text message while driving to save my life. (Good thing I didn’t wreck.)”
“Well, here is my take. From the title, I expected this to be the biggest fail phone ever. But, it doesn’t sound like it is. Just not perfect, and certainly doesn’t (in your opinion) come close to the iPhone. I don’t understand why that makes Nokia doomed”
Be the judge yourself. Try the feel of the most anticipated Nokia phone and see if its worth your money.
