Nokia N97: Most Complete Smartphone

The release of Nokia N97 has been most anticipated by Nokia lovers. It is said to be the most complete smartphone Nokia has ever made. It is a dream come true for Symbian fanatics out there. Is this futuristic phone really a full loaded meal for the Nokia addict user? When it comes to the NSeries from Nokia, people really would expect much unlike other phones manufactured by Nokia. The NSeries is the top of the line for Nokia handsets and this N97 should be the best of the best. Besides, it is not that cheap to buy an NSeries phone.

The key features of the phone are as follows: Slide and tilt 3.5″ 16M-color resistive touchscreen.  The resolution is 640 x 360 pixel. It’s  5 megapixel autofocus cam is built with a dual-LED flash and a cover for the lens. It also has a VGA video recording. The OS is Symbian version 9.4.  It has a Slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, a powerful ARM 11 434MHz CPU which has a 128 MB RAM. Not to be left behind, it is Quad-band and supports 3G with HSDPA. You can check the net anytime with its Wi-Fi and GPS.  It has some cool applications including the Digital compass.  Memory: 32GB onboard and microSD card slot which supports microSDHC.  But wait! There’s more:  It has a built-in accelerometer, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a TV out, an FM Radio, an FM transmitter. It also has a microUSB and Bluetooth, Full Flash and Java support. What more can you ask for?

Some not so good comments about the unit: The S60 5th edition UI still has poor ergonomics and is not as friendly to the thumb as was anticipated. The camera features are left behind compared to other smartphones. It does not support DivX or XviD. There is no smart dialing. And sowtware compatibility is limited to 3rd party providers. You also can’t edit office documents.

From the list of advantages and disadvantages of the phone, it actually puts nothing new for the Nokia fanatics. Will this new phone really get a warm welcome from Nokia fans? It is up for a test. From N96 disappointments, will the N97 be the saving factor of the Nokia group? Or will people turn to Samsung, iPhone or the BlackBerry?

Nonetheless, the cutthroat competition among the big companies has kept people anticipating for better phones every month. With this on the rise, prices become more affordable for customers since Samsung’s Omnia and Apple’s iPhone continue to fight for the top spot in the smartphone category. With all this happening, China has also been contacted by big companies to produce phones which are as advanced and as fully loaded as the phones which the US has produced. The question is, will the China phones be able to match the quality of the US branded phones? Or aren’t the branded phones get their parts from China as well?
