Mythic’s quality is real, not mythical in the least

clip_image002Mobile technology has continued to advance in step with the times in recent years. Mobile manufacturers have managed to employ advancements in more ways than one, whether by making improvements to existing models and bringing them back from the pit of obscurity to shine like new once again, or by creating whole-cloth innovations that stand as heralds of a new technological age. Medicine, transportation, entertainment and communications have all benefited from these efforts, as new technological wonders make their presence felt more and more as time goes by. The pace of life does continue to speed up, but with it comes technology.

Multimedia and mobile manufacturer Samsung recently released a new model aiming to provide a solid mobile at an overall more affordable rate. Seeking to match or even top its previous success with the Samsung Eternity and move past the shortcomings of the lower-end Samsung Solstice, Samsung has put together the Samsung Mythic, a solid feature phone running Samsung’s intuitive TouchWiz interface system and promising a user-friendly phone experience, even for users upgrading from older mobiles.

The differences between the Mythic and its predecessors become evident with one look at the phone’s face. With a larger display resolution of 360×640 pixels on a 3.3” screen, the Mythic establishes a definitely different look and promises more clearly visible visuals than the Eternity or Solstice. While not the AMOLED display of the Impression or a capacitive touch screen like that of the iPhone 3GS, the Mythic’s 262,000-color TST display is a fairly responsive resistive touch screen and displays great images well, with vibrant colors and sharp clarity. The internal accelerometer and proximity sensor are also essential, of course, and the Mythic integrates them seamlessly to support portrait and landscape display modes.

Much has also remained the same, specifically the Samsung TouchWiz interface. While it is somewhat dated, it must be noted that Samsung has chosen not to fix what isn’t broken – and as such users can customize the perennial interface with up to 33 shortcuts. Home screens are also customizable, with up to 3 to choose from and tailor with widgets. Among those shortcuts is access to the Mythic’s excellent and roomy 2000-entry phone book, which can store up to four phone numbers, a birthday, an email address and a descriptive note for each contact; another key feature one might want to link to is AT&T Mobile TV [viewable via Qualcomm’s MediaFLO Network], which is one of the bigger selling points of the Mythic.

Call quality is similarly strong despite some static and voice harshness, with mostly clear reception and delivery across most 3G networks – this model is both a quad band GSM world phone and a 3G world phone [2100MHxz for Europe and Asia, and with HSDPA – at least on AT&T], which makes it a solid phone for virtually any user base anywhere. The Mythic also has GPS supported by AT&T Navigator, a great multimedia package for common audio and video formats [the latter includes WMV and MP4], two types of browsers – WAP and HTML, the latter a Samsung-developed one based on the webkit platform used on both the iPhone and the Palm Pre. 3G browsing is also extremely fast, with pages loading swiftly and looking great on the crisp display. Plenty of apps round out the entertainment experience, with games like Bejeweled, Tumbling Dice, I-Play Bowling, and World Poker Tour Hold ‘Em 2 and apps like WikiMobile, Yellow Pages Mobile and Mobile Banking, all of which add to the Mythic’s many great features to make it an indispensable phone overall.
