MP3 Ringtone Creator does as it promises for BlackBerry

clip_image002Mobile content is a powerful commodity for the modern mobile market. So powerful, in fact, that even on aspect of it – mobile music – has taken off and emerged as a strong commodity all its own! The mobile and music industries have worked together to provide users with a wide range of options for songs and such that can be used for ringtones and full-track downloads, what with artists eager to lend their tracks to the effort in order to gain serious ground in the competitive race for the public eye. Users for their part have embraced these developments, downloading and purchasing ringtones with abandon.

There are those, though, who have also embraced developments that have empowered users and allowed them to create their own ringtones for much less. Apple iPhone users in particular – already fortunate enough to be able to purchase inexpensive ringtone versions via iTunes – have been practically showered with numerous applications that allow them to either upload tracks to remote servers for trimming into ringtone length, or trim them on their own mobile units. Now, a new application makes waves of a similar stripe for BlackBerry users who would like the rings on their own sleek mobile models to be distinctive and unique.

The unambiguously-named MP3 Ringtone Creator from Javatek is an inexpensive $2.99 application that does what it promises, which is to allow BlackBerry users to convert any MP3 song file into a BlackBerry ringtone. While BlackBerry models typically come with a reasonably good set of ringtones as is, users may crave a more distinctive sound to identify the phone as theirs. Furthermore, even though newer BlackBerry models have the Set As Ring Tone function, this usually results in just having the start of the song play as a ringtone. The app will lend users a new level of tone functionality: they can use the application to convert an existing song to a ringtone-length clip using the desired section of the track.

The simple interface offers plenty of options. A user can play the song, press a Set button to highlight the desired segment of the track, and save. A Fine Tune option from the menu allows for closer and more specific time-setting and even allows for tone previewing without making an accidental change to the beginning of the tone. The start setting can also be dragged to a specific point on the track timeline, and using the Alt key can help users fine-tune their selection even more. Tones can be created within the standard 30-second length, although an End Point Selection option allows users to modify the desired endpoint of the ringtone, making selecting the chorus portion of the track a breeze. The volume of the track can also be modified, and Fade In and Fade Out options allow for smooth opening or closing fades that give the ringtone a less jarring start and end.

The application is easy to use and generally manages to pack in a lot of customization and tweaking options for its relatively low price tag.
