2010 has been a great year for mobile content so far, following up on a busy past couple of years for mobile media and its related emergent commodities. Mobile music made its first strides several years ago, getting its foot in the door with ringtones and music clips. Those evolved through the years as the quality of music fidelity and compression available on mobile phones also improved, and soon mobile images and video were set to follow suit. Nowadays mobile media is a runaway success, a bankable commodity for sure, and one through which many new future pillars of the industry may be getting their start.
Mobile content delivery group Myxer has parlayed their mobile media success into a marketing push, heralded by the launch of a set of mobile marketing services called MobileStage, all geared towards a mobile empowerment of the music industry. App marketing, mobile website creation, analytics, fanlist management and more are part of the services MobileStage offers. Called a “Myspace Music for Mobile” by Myxer, MobileStage is loaded with these suite tools that are oriented toward helping artists make their mobile offerings better and more solid overall. Myxer brings a large base of 30 million customers to the deal via their mobile site, making for a sizeable market already available for the tapping when it comes to promoting the upcoming artist apps.
Myxer is no stranger to working with artists; they have already collaborated with various performers for the Myxer ringtone and mobile content offerings – recently spanning some 10 million iPhone ringtones and 1 billion ringtones overall, currently offering some 2 million ringtones, videos and wallpapers for free. Myxer’s service flexibility extends to allowing users to make their own mobile content – be it ringtones, videos or wallpaper – using files they already own. MobileStage is thus the latest step in a long line of innovations and smart moves done by Myxer over the years, and one done in cooperation with a number of musicians and digital platforms.
Indeed, ReverbNAtion, Amie Street, INgrooves, The Orchard,Kedar Entertainment, SellaBand and Audiolife are but some of the entities Myxer is tying up with for MobileStage – which Myxer says will eventually offer full music tracks for download, as well as streaming audio and video. Even artist merchandise, concert tickets, and other items should be available through MobileStage as things progress. Over 125,000 artists are already enjoying the benefits of MobileStage, after just three or so months of its being available.
Myxer is currently proudest of signing rap artist Snoop Dogg for MobileStage in order to promote his new album and mini-movie. Promotions for More Malice, a 2-CD set following the release of Snoop Dogg’s Malice in Wonderland, include the creation of a content channel showing off Malice in Wonderland making-of featurettes along with ringtones, wallpapers and other content. A special contest tied to the mobile video content on the More Malice promotional site is currently running, where a winner could get to meet the rap artist in LA.
