IPad sales all over the world has been off the charts. People are craving for these kinds of changes in technology. Apple has always led the world in product features, even making Japan made phones like Panasonic and Sony seem like child’s toy. But recently Apple together with AT&T is currently facing a battle which may become a million dollar lawsuit. Both AT&T and Apple are being attacked by lawsuits claiming that customers were tricked into buying the latest gadget Apple has released: The iPad. The lawsuit claims that there was an unfair switching of the unlimited data plans to per-use-charging system.
The lawsuit started in San Jose, CA. Filed in the US District Court of San Jose last June 9, the suit is currently expanding. More customers are claiming that they have been wrongly informed about the iPad 3G unlimited plan of AT&T. The suit claims that customers have been tricked into purchasing the said device with prepaid unlimited data plans.
One of the complainants said that he originally purchased a standard unit. A device this high tech needs 3G capability so the customer after trying it out for 3 weeks was not satisfied because he is not able to maximize its full capability of the features of the new tablet. So, he went back to the store to have an iPad with 3G capability. He thought that because the gadget came with an unlimited data plan he would only pay a monthly fixed rate.
Who wouldn’t want to maximize a gadget as expensive and as high end as an Apple iPad? Customers who bought this new tablet do not just want to look at it and put it inside the box after every use but maximize its capability to do whatever it can especially with its internet capabilities. And the best plan to have is an unlimited usage plan for internet browsing. Could the customer be at fault that he did not come to know about the changes, or was AT&T misinformed the customers to lure them into to buying the iPad.
The plan that AT&T is offering is a $15/month charge for 200MB data usage. Another plan charges $25/month for 2GB data usage. Going over the subscribed plan would mean additional charges for both plans. If you were able to subscribe to the unlimited plan before these two new plans you could keep it as long as you want. But if you skip a month of fees you automatically lose your right to go back to the unlimited plan AT&T offers.
The lawsuit was filed before these new plans were offered which is only a week after the said telco announced data limits on the plans which had unlimited usage.
Dissatisfied customers currently gain the momentum with the complaint that they filed. Will this actually destroy the credibility of Apple and AT&T or will these Big Two be able to hurdle the lawsuit easily?
