Kanye has maintained a contentious image with the press since his emcounter with Taylor Swift last 2009 MTV Awards. Whatever happened last November 9 is an expression of his frustration with the “Today” show right after they played the video interview over the Taylor Swift incident. It took him 14 months for the media to take a look at Kanye’s reinventing himself.
“While I was trying to give the interview they started playing the ‘MTV’ under me with audio!!!!!!!” West wrote. “I don’t mess with Matt Lauer or the ‘Today’ Show … and that’s a very nice way for me to put it! … HE TRIED TO FORCE MY ANSWERS. IT WAS VERY BRUTAL AND I CAME THERE WITH ONLY POSITIVE INTENT.”
It appears that Kanye is done with the media specifically when he said in his written statement, in one of his tweets, “I don’t do press anymore. He did not know better since as a celebrity public relations is a game best played with diplomacy.
Just to remind you guys of the Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Taylor was embarrassed in front of a live audience when Kanye jumped in front of her announcing that Beyonce had the best video of all time. Although Kanye have had success, Taylor should not have been treated like that. And now, his recent incident with the Today show.
He is aggressively changing his image and seems to be hanging on to it. Michael Levine, who was formerly the PR firm of Michael Jackson told MTV that “I think [West's Twitter rant] is an understandable reaction. When somebody has had a run of great success, they do not respond well to being crucified in the media. … They become like deer in the headlights. They get frozen.”
According to Levine this has been the game West played ever since the Swift incident back in 2009. This is a large scale of his reinventing himself. A plan which Levine thinks is just because of the success he has had. Even his statement that he won’t speak to the media anymore is just part of his plan.
Levine added, “I think he’s in a place where the conversation is starting to change. We’ll have to see if he’s going to be able to do it. I think the ranting about how unfair the media is needs to stop. I think he’s got to also now get back to more of what he’s known for: the musical performances. Change the conversation, and stay off the Twitter.”
Kanye’s reinvention may be planned or not but is surely making the media feast on his story. What do you think about Kanye’s reinventing his image? Post your comments and let us know what you think.
