Even in the face of economic slowdown, mobile media is still a fairly solid commodity that maintains its standing through the support of its increasingly tech-savvy user base. It is no surprise that mobile media and content enjoy this strong current standing, considering that mobile media and mobile phones have gone hand in hand and the latter have continued to evolve on their own over the years, bringing the former with them. Mobile content has expanded considerably with the added influence of the music industry, who have signed up with mobile content providers to provide entire libraries of songs as mobile content.
For those of us who can’t afford to keep step with the ever-increasing pace of the mobile media industry, there have been many personal ringtone makers that allow a user to trim a song down into a ringtone-length audio clip for sideloading or installing into their mobile phone. Mobile phone technology has come to embrace the use and support of either USB data cabling or multimedia memory cards, which are generally the ways through which we can copy and install our ringtones and even wallpapers and other content. As such, these ringtone makers have come to us just in time to save us a lot of money and time as well.
One application that sems fairly run-of-the-mill from its name to its features is “iPhone Ringtone Maker v1.5 for Mac”, by the software company iSkysoft Studio. A long-awaited upgrade from its previous revision, iPhone Ringtone Maker v1.5 continues to offer users the opportunity to make unique and distinctive ringtones for their iPhones. At only $19, iPhone Ringtone Maker v1.5 retains all of the original features and functions present in v1.0, and delivers several new features such as Transfer to iPhone, Ringtone Manager, Recorder and Groove Box, allowing a whole new range of ways that users can customize their ringtone library with a simple program.
iPhone Ringtone Manager v1.5 offers support for various audio formats, among them MP3, WAV, WMA, M4A, AC3, as well as numerous video formats such as MP4, MPG, MPEG, VOB, AVI and more. The program runs best on Mac OS X v10.5 with Snow Leopard, facilitating numerous functions such as direct transfer of created ringtones to your iPhone directly. This keeps users from having to deal with iTunes just to transfer a ringtone, although that option is also open for users who figure they can transfer their ringtones through iTunes while they have it running anyway. This is kept open by the new Ringtone Manager, which looks to simplify and streamline the ringtone managing experience.
The trim function is the core of the ringtone maker, of course, with a waveform-view system that has become standard. The drag-and-drop system for start and end points is supplemented by a box wherein a user can just input the start and end times instead of having to highlight them onscreen. A zoom function allows for more precise clip trimming, and fade in/out effects lasting up to five seconds each are also available. This is all supplemented further buy the new Groove Box function, which claims to let users experience being “a musician by editing melody via clicking.”
