Handsets for the Holidays from T-Mobile

clip_image002Ever since cell phones made the leap from work necessity and international access item to an intensely personal and increasingly versatile customizable item, various approaches to providing and profiting from mobile content and mobile media have been developed. Allowing the users from various demographic groups to emphasize and embellish their personalities and styles with their mobile devices, customizable elements and content such as wallpapers, music files and ringtones make modern mobile devices exciting and almost indispensable for the modern user. Mobile providers and music companies have taken advantage of the demand for these developments, offering newer models featuring new technological advancements and the latest music from the latest hot acts.

Deutsche Telekom subsidiary and Germany-based mobile network operator T-Mobile recently announced a slew of new models, all 3G-enabled devices that offer a variety of features. Among this latest wave of handsets is a wide selection of Android-powered phones, the broadest selection in the United States. T-Mobile’s offerings also include a stylish new flip phone and one with a versatile touch screen. A statement from T-Mobile USA director of product marketing, Travis Warren, reads “T-Mobile is focused on driving a wide variety of innovative products for our customers that help them stay connected through voice, e-mail, social networks or the latest Android Market applications.” Warren goes on to emphasize “the numerous Android-powered phones with features that range from personalization to premiere music experiences to multimedia entertainment and social networking.”

T-Mobile’s initial offering is a joint effort with Samsung. The first Android phone jointly produced by the two mobile titans, the Samsung Behold II features a 3.2-iunch AMOLED touch screen and Samsung’s exclusive cube-style menu, which allows its users quick access to its diverse photo, video and music features. The running software includes a Google Search-powered web browsing experience, allowing access to sites the likes of Amazon MP3 and YouTube, and allowing. Customization of the phone’s mechanics and home screen is enabled by the Samsung TouchWiz user interface.

Also an Android phone on T-Mobile’s list of offerings is Motorola’s first Android-powered device, the Motorola CLIQ with MOTOBLUR. The unique MOTOBLUR messaging and social networking integration solution streamlines and manages communications such as work emails and social messaging tasks, making them easily navigable and accessible from the home screen – synced from Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace, as well as Gmail and other email sources. Its full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and 3.1-inch HVGA touch screen make it sleek and stylish enough to appeal to the most distinguishing of consumers.

Finally, the T-Mobile Tap and Nokia 3711 are two feature-rich new phones also offering support for T-Mobile’s 3G network. The Tap’s web3goSM browsing solution, 2-megapixel video-enabled camera, music player and TeleNav-compatible GPS capability set it apart from the pack, as does its support for personal email and various messaging capabilities including SMS, MMS and IM – while the Nokia 3711 is a smart-looking flip phone and a specialized hidden-until-lit external display. Also supporting T-Mobile’s 3G network and the web2go browsing solution, the 3711 features Nokia Maps support via GPS and a 2-megapixel video-capture-enabled camera, and the Series 40 operating system.

Ideally out by the end of 2009, these phones will be made available to approximately 200 million users across the US, alongside the upgrading of T-Mobile’s 3G network across the country.
