Are Ringtones Still a Good Business on Google?

Is it still possible to make a good business for ringtones after its decrease in sales almost two years ago? Are there recent changes in Google’s AdWords which can affect mobile offers such as ringtones?

With the changes that Google has implemented both big players and small players in the ringtone industry can’t help but gnash their teeth in dismay. Google always tries their best to protect the interest of their clients and at the same time the people who surf the net. AdWords such as “Free Ringtones” have to be evaluated and really has to be free and should not charge any customer for downloading the offered “free ringtone”.

Back in 2002, Google was not strict with these AdWords. If you are surfing the net and you see “Free Ringtones”, some of the ads are actually not free and might charge you a one-time fee or even a monthly subscription of $9.95. So, if your website offers ringtones, whether you are big ringtone company or a small third party ringtone provider then you better think of better ways to offer ringtones on Google.

What other providers have done, especially third party companies, is to display a URL which is a trusted company. Good thing you can still control some of the things in your website like the URLs you place on your homepage. For example, Company X can put in their display URL “URL.com/Verizon” or a sub-domain which has “Verizon.URL.com”. Although Google has been stricter with the AdWords, third party ringtone providers are still able to be creative in promoting their products.

This makes perfect sense for people shopping for ringtones. If you are searching the web for ringtones which are quality ringtones and not just uploaded by some kid in the basement of his mom’s house then seeing a Verizon, AT &T, or Sprint in the URL will convey legit and quality tones. Google still gives ringtone websites or any other website the freedom to put anything on their homepages. What Google is concerned about is false ads which frustrate anyone. Getting a free ringtone for a month is cool but getting charged for it the next months is certainly a hassle for ringtone fanatics.

To answer the question we have earlier, is Google still a good platform to market ringtones for small ringtone providers and big ringtone companies? The answer is still yes. Google is the number one search engine in the world and if you are a smart business man, you will stick with the number 1. There are other search engines though which can be also good playing grounds for businesses like ringtones. Nonetheless, the key here is creativity. If Google implements certain rules for their ads then respond to it positively and creatively. There are good ways in promoting ringtones which do not give clients a false ad. Work your way within Google and be creative in promoting your ringtones.
