The ever-changing landscape of the mobile market necessitates shifts in approaches for mobile providers and phone designers as well. Fortunately technology continues to make great new things possible as new developments make it easier for these companies to put together more versatile, more interesting and more capable phones operating off of the latest platforms and with all of the bells and whistles one expects from a mobile phone of the modern age. Cameras, music players, internet connectivity and various other inclusions have become so commonplace as to be expected of newer phone models, and it’s no different for Acer’s new Liquid unit.

Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer Acer is more typically known for its desktop and laptop computer production, with a rich product lineup that has come to include personal digital assistants, individual and server-scale storage, displays and other computer peripherals. They have, as a matter of fact, become renowned as the largest manufacturer of laptop computers and are currently second largest computer manufacturer overall, just behind Hewlett-Packard.

This year, Acer introduced its new Liquid series smartphone, one of many firsts: a true testament to combining cutting-edge technology with a desire to provide a streamlined, convenient mobile experience, the Liquid is the first-ever Qualcomm Snapdragon™ processor-based smartphone and the world’s first one with the Android™ 1.6 operating system.

Acer has put together an impressive item in a sleek-looking frame with a bright and sharp 3.2-inch high-definition WVGA-capable touchscreen, powered by a 1GHz CPU, roughly double the processing power of the Hero. Among its many features are a 5-megapixel autofocus-enabled camera, as well as a self-timer, smart focus capability, and a sharp sense of geo-tagging that shows off its GPS capabilities. The phone also takes into account the power imbalances that smartphone users have been complaining about of late, as Acer has promised improved power management while not sacrificing a versatile and user-friendly interface with easy access to the Internet – the latter showcased by the exclusive streaming-media Spinlets application which should prove popular with a variety of demographic sectors. Spinlets is an application that provides free streaming of mobile content such as music and video, which can then be shared through web posting or email.

Acer also projects that a wide variety of new applications for Android Smart Handhelds – the Liquid included – are coming down the line, including games and web apps that will combine with the Liquid’s web capabilities to ensure a rich web experience. The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that forms the heart and brain of the Liquid also ensures negligible load times for quick access to web pages and smooth streaming of the mobile media that the Liquid will be capable of playing, with no idle time and almost instantaneous use of various applications.

Users of various age groups and social circles are likely to also be anticipating the smart integration of social networking services such as Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, Picasa and Flickr with realtime notification of relevant updates, all of which are easily accessible via the streamlined new user interface that allows for a clear and organized browsing experience.
